Bugoye Hypertension Improvement Project

The Bugoye Hypertension Improvement Project (B-HIP), a demonstration project based in Bugoye Health center III (BHC III), is a collaboration between the department of internal medicine at Mbarara University of Science & Technology and Bugoye health center III to provide clinical care for hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases.

To-date, B-HIP has completed 1-year follow up of more than 100 adults.  While the initial results are encouraging, the demand for hypertension care is outpacing our current supply.  More and more patients are presenting to be enrolled to the clinic.  B-HIP has plans to expand to not only increase the patient enrollment but to comprehensively detect and manage complications and comorbid conditions: Left ventricular hypertrophy, kidney disease, and hypertensive retinopathy.  These are important for prognostication and long term clinical care.
